Solus Christus

Solus Christus (Christ Alone) proclaims that salvation is of no one else but Jesus Christ. He alone is the mediator between God and man.  He is  the perfect High Priest offering himself as the sufficient substitutionary sacrifice for sin. The Reformation confronted the mediatorial roles of the priests, saints, and the pope with Christ as the only intercessor acceptable for the absolution of sins.

“For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all…”
~1 Timothy 2:5–6

Christ alone fulfilled the law perfectly (Mt 3:15), bore the full wrath of God on the cross (Gal. 3:13; Eph 5:2; Rom. 8:3-4). , and rose again victorious over sin and death (Col 2:15; Heb 2:14; 2 Tim 1:10; Rev. 1:18).  His work is perfect and sufficient and nothing can be added to it.

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
~Acts 4:12

Solus Christus is not merely a part of the Gospel but Christ Jesus is the gospel.  He is the prophet like Moses who reveals God to us, the perfect high priest who reconciles us to God, and king who reigns upon the throne forever.   No office or activity of the church can replace, usurp, or assist Christ in redeeming the souls of men.

Solus Christus admonishes us to glory in our Redeemer (Phil 2:10-11), anchors our souls to His perfect work (Heb 6:18-20), and silences our boasting except in Christ Alone (Gal. 6:14). We come to Jesus Christ empty, trusting only in the perfect Savior and risen Lord!
